RAY DOWDING

I first gained a serious interest in photography almost 40 years ago at which time I founded Fentham Photographic Society. It is rewarding to note that today its members are still turning out work of an excellent standard. At this time my passion was Audio-Visual (slide-sound) in which medium I gained both my Associate and Fellowship of the Royal Photographic Society.

During this time I judged several International Exhibitions and was very privileged to be invited to sit on the RPS Distinctions Panel for AV.

However, work took me away from home forcing me to take a gap year from photography,a period that lasted for almost 25 years! I returned to photography, not having taken a serious picture for almost a quarter of a century, to find the digital revolution in full swing. Impressed by the endless possibilities on offer I quickly became a convert and so doing rekindled my desire to communicate visually.

I am now a member of Smethwick PS that I believe rates as one of the best in the country. There is no better place to view the work of leading photographers from around the world. The work shown is always very inspiring although at times it can be quite humbling. See the LINKS section for the link to Smethwick PS.
